Performance & Flexibility of Neitz IO‑α LEDExceptional Visual Quality & Field Control

Neitz’s unique optical formula allows for independent adjustment of the illumination axis, observation axis, and spot size—delivering crisp, high-contrast stereoscopic views even through small pupils (≈2 mm). Observing peripheral retinal structures becomes easier and more precise, especially critical in vitreoretinal exams

The LED system is tuned to a 3200 K halogen-like color temperature, reproducing true retinal colors—red of vessels, orange of retina, and yellow of optic disc—without filament shadow. This delivers clinically reliable fundus visualization comparable to traditional halogen systems, but with far greater consistency The IO‑α LED handset uses a 3 W white LED rated for 50,000+ hours, eliminating bulb replacements and ensuring maintenance-free operation

Paired with a rechargeable lithium battery pack (IO‑BP3A), the device delivers up to 10 hours of illumination at medium intensity—or ~5 hours at maximum brightness—offering extended usability during busy clinics

In 2021, Neitz upgraded the battery pack to be 30% lighter and reduced charging time to just 2 hours—enhancing clinician comfort and efficiency during extended us

The handset body is lightweight (~480 g for standard, 730 g for camera-integrated version), and the headband features adjustable pupillary distance (54–74 mm) and depth settings to fit various head shapes with ease

Combined with smooth single-hand mirror adjustment, this design supports ergonomic clinical workflows, permitting seamless angle changes without interrupting observation
